frequently asked questions

What age or health restrictions are there?
  • SKIRR Adventures travelers must be over 18 when participating but there is no upper age limit. If you have an underlying health condition please let us know; we can usually reassure you that you will receive insurance cover over a quick phone call.
  • The SKIRR Covid Policy follows the U.K. Government advice and that of the destination ports. Travelers will receive the most up to date advice before departure and may be asked to provide proof of vaccination and/or negative test.
How do I get to the departure port, and return home?
  • Travel to and from the SKIRR expedition yacht is your responsibility. We have prepared suggested travel options for travelers but if you are unsure about transfers please get in touch.
Which travel insurance should I choose?
  • SKIRR Adventures covers you for personal injury while on board for duration of your leg, subject to conditions.
  • If this type of expedition sailing is not covered by your own travel insurance provider SKIRR can point you to appropriate insurers who will be able to provide the right cover.
What should I pack
  • Travelers will receive a suggested packing list as part of the onboarding package for their selected leg. Since your technical kit is provided by SKIRR you will only need to bring your sleeping bag, personal items, base and mid layers, and camera equipment etc. Your personal berth has stowage for a spacious 100 litre holdall-style sports bag, plus your camera bag and day bag.
Safety equipment onboard
  • SKIRR takes your personal safety very seriously. Our 68-foot yachts are fitted with market leading safety equipment, as used by the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. All travellers will wear state-of-the-art safety life jackets provided by Clipper Race Official Supplier, Spinlock. Your professional skipper and two additional qualified persons are equipped and trained to ensure the yacht operates safely to ensure your expedition is a success.
Where can I read the detailed Terms and Conditions?
Seasickness / illness
  • Not everyone feels seasick, but for those that do try not to worry, it generally passes in the first 24hrs. Simple things like staying hydrated and eating regularly will help. Your Onboarding Pack will include information about your onboard health and fitness.
Do I need sailing experience?
  • As a minimum, we require all participants to have either completed Clipper Race Level 1 training or to hold the RYA Day Skipper Qualification, awarded by an RYA approved sailing school.
Our preferred provider is Hamble School of Yachting in the UK.
    Equivalent qualifications will be considered.
