Are there any age or health restrictions?
- SKIRR Adventures travelers must be over 18 when participating but there is no upper age limit. If you have an underlying health condition please let us know either before or at the time of booking so we can check this is covered under our insurance policy.
Seasickness / illness
- Not everyone feels seasick, but for those that do try not to worry, it generally passes in the first 24hrs. Simple things like staying hydrated and eating regularly will help. Your Onboarding Pack will include information about your onboard health and fitness.
How fit do i need to be?

What should I pack
- Travelers will receive a suggested packing list as part of the onboarding package for their selected leg. You may choose to use the technical kit provided by SKIRR (jacket & salopettes) or bring your own. You will only need to bring your sleeping bag, personal items, base and mid layers, and camera equipment etc. Your personal berth has stowage for a spacious 100 litre holdall-style sports bag, plus your camera bag and day bag.
Safety equipment onboard
- SKIRR takes your personal safety very seriously. Our 68-foot yachts are fitted with market leading safety equipment, as used by the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. All travellers will wear state-of-the-art safety life jackets provided by Clipper Race Official Supplier, Spinlock. Your professional skipper and two additional qualified persons are equipped and trained to ensure the yacht operates safely to ensure your expedition is a success.

CAN FRIENDS AND FAMILY FOLLOW THE EXPEDITION?
Yes, the SKIRR Adventures expedition will be trackable through the YB Races app. This link will be sent to all participants prior to the departure of the expedition as well as available on our website.
HOW MANY SPACES ARE THERE ON EACH YACHT?
There is space for a maximum number of 12 guests on board each yacht.

How do I get to the departure port, and return home?
- Travel to and from the SKIRR expedition yacht is your responsibility. We have prepared suggested travel options for travelers but if you are unsure about transfers please get in touch.
do i need travel insurance?
- SKIRR Adventures has insurance in place for travel and personal injury while on board for duration of your leg, subject to conditions.
- A copy of the policy is available upon request at the time of booking.
is all food included?
All on-board meals are included during your time on board. We will request details of any specific dietary requirements and will cater to these where possible.
Participants are encouraged to assist with meal preparation and cooking on rotational basis. It’s all part of the experience!
CAN I STAY ON BOARD BETWEEN LEGS?
We ask that all participants join the yacht at their specified joining time. Between legs, our sailing staff will either be busy getting the yachts prepped and ready or on their rest days so will be unable to check guests in outside of the timings provided.
What are the sleeping arrangements on board?
Each participant will sleep in a bunk located in an open-plan sleeping area on board. Each bunk is fitted with a padded mattress, lee cloth and detachable privacy screen.
Participants will need to bring their own pillows and sleeping bag.
ABOUT THE SAILING
WILL THE ROUTE/ITINERARY CHANGE?
The itinerary we provide is for guideline purpsoses only. Although we will try to follow this as closely as possible, expedition sailing is uniquely flexible and the route/destinations may change due to unpredictable weather conditions.
Do I need sailing experience?
- As a minimum, we require all participants to have either completed Clipper Race Level 1 training or to hold the RYA Day Skipper Qualification, awarded by an RYA approved sailing school.
Our preferred provider is Hamble School of Yachting in the UK.
Equivalent qualifications will also be considered so please contact us if you are unsure.
ARE THERE WATCH SYSTEMS?
Yes, watches are usually between 3-6 hours depending on temperatures and the time of day/night. All participants are expected to take part in watch systems as directed by the Skipper/Watch Leader.
HOW MANY STAFF MEMBERS WILL THERE BE?
There will be three staff members on board each yacht, including your Skipper, First and Second mate.
